arrow Shellfish Toxin Consultancy

In house testing of shellfish for marine biotoxins is a cost effective way of ensuring that your product is safe and meets all regulatory requirements, especially when dealing with fresh products that reach the market very quickly.
GlycoMar has been helping the shellfish industry address its biotoxin testing needs by provision of independent consultancy services. Charlie Bavington, the Managing Director, worked for several years as operations and quality manager of the UK's only specialist commercial shellfish toxin testing company. This experience provides unique expertise of the technical, regulatory and practical issues associated with testing for toxins in shellfish products. GlycoMar does not carry out shellfish toxin testing, therefore providing a service that is free from any commercial or regulatory interests.

Rapid Test Methods

We offer expertise in rapid test methods that are suitable to address the pre-harvest, in process, and end product testing needs of the shellfish industry. These test are all based on the well-established ELISA platform (Enzyme Linked ImmunoSorbant Assay), which gives future flexibility for the introduction of further food safety tests.

We offer packages tailored to the needs of the individual customer, that include:

  • Planning a testing system that will meet your needs
  • Equipment sourcing and installation - we have negotiated very significant price reductions that would not be available to individual customers
  • Training of staff to carry out testing - tailored on-site training courses
  • Documentation full documentation of procedures to meet the requirements of your quality system
  • Support technical support by telephone, e-mail, and site visits
